THE BAUERs celebrates the Carnival period with two events about LA MARCHESA CASATI. Intrigue, mystery and fantasy on February 7th and 14th.
She was an eccentric Italian heiress, muse, patroness of arts and fashion and she lived from 1881 to 1957. She was muse to Italian Futurists such as F. T. Marinetti, Fortunato Depero and Umberto Boccioni. She captivated artists and literary figures such as Robert de Montesquieu, Jean Cocteau, and Cecil Beaton. She had a long term affair with the author Gabriele d’Annunzio. In 1910 Casati took up residence at the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, on Grand Canal in Venice (now the home of the Peggy Guggenheim collection). Her soirées there would become legendary. Often referenced, her style has inspired fashion designers for decades.
